Discover the Ease of the SleepImage Ring for Your Sleep Health

Your journey to better sleep starts here! The SleepImage Ring is a small, comfortable device that you wear on your finger for one night, and it collects important information about your sleep. This test is done right in your own bed—no wires, no bulky equipment, just a natural night of sleep.

Here’s what it helps us understand about your sleep:

  • Heart Activity: It tracks your heart rate and the time between beats, helping us see how your heart responds during sleep.
  • Breathing Patterns: It monitors your breathing to check for any irregularities, like pauses or shallow breathing.
  • Oxygen Levels: It ensures your body is getting enough oxygen throughout the night.
  • Sleep Movements: It detects your movements to assess your sleep quality and patterns.

The process is simple:

  1. Pick up the SleepImage Ring from our office.
  2. Wear it on your finger as you sleep in the comfort of your home.
  3. Return the device the next day, and we’ll analyze the data.
  4. We will send you a detailed report with recommendations from our board-certified sleep physician.

This test is quick, non-invasive, and provides valuable insights to help you sleep and feel better. Let us help you take the first step toward healthier, more restful nights.

Our Sleep Assessment Goes Beyond Sleep Apnea Diagnosis

Sleep & the Autonomic Nervous System

Sleep & the Autonomic Nervous System

Sleep & the Autonomic Nervous System

The sleep assessment ring we use is an FDA-cleared Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) device, comparable to an AHI from polysomnography (PSG) with just a single point of contact. But it does more than that; it's a clinical tool that analyzes the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) during sleep, which has a two-way relationship with sleep/wake control. The ANS is key to maintaining the body's balance, achieved through coordination of heart rate variability and breathing, which are the core components of Cardiopulmonary Coupling (CPC), the technique behind our sleep ring. This ring is a diagnostic and management tool that tracks sleep quality and sleep apnea. Clinical research shows this combined method helps manage blood pressure and other cardiovascular and cardiometabolic markers, along with treating sleep apnea as measured by the AHI.

The ANS not only manages the two-way relationship with sleep and wake control, but it also identifies NREM sleep as either Stable or Unstable based on the interaction between heart rate variability and breathing rate variability.

Our sleep assessment ring output puts sleep back into sleep medicine to expand patient care beyond the AHI.

Besides diagnosing obstructive and central sleep apnea, our sleep assessment ring can evaluate other sleep disorders, offering valuable clinical info for assessing insomnia and possibly other issues like movement disorders. Autonomic dysfunction and sleep patterns influence each other. For example, insomnia can boost sympathetic activation and disrupt sleep, raising the risk for cardiovascular stress and poor blood pressure control, even without sleep apnea. Another example is periodicity, which signals a higher risk of negative cardiovascular outcomes.

The SleepImage Ring is a non-invasive, finger-worn device designed to monitor various physiological parameters during sleep. It collects the following data:

  • Plethysmogram (PLETH): Captures blood volume changes in the finger, providing insights into cardiovascular function.
  • Heart (Pulse) Rate: Measures the number of heartbeats per minute, indicating cardiac activity.
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Assesses variations in time intervals between heartbeats, reflecting autonomic nervous system balance.
  • Respiration: Monitors breathing patterns and rates, essential for detecting irregularities.
  • Blood Oxygenation (SpO₂): Determines oxygen saturation levels in the blood, crucial for identifying hypoxemia.
  • Actigraphy: Records body movements to evaluate sleep-wake patterns and sleep quality.

By analyzing these metrics, the SleepImage Ring aids in diagnosing sleep disorders such as obstructive and central sleep apnea. Its streamlined design enhances user comfort and simplifies the setup process, making it a convenient alternative to traditional sleep studies.

The SleepImage Ring and Apple Watches both collect data on sleep and health metrics, but they serve different purposes and cater to different needs. Here's how the SleepImage Ring stands apart:

Purpose:

  • SleepImage Ring: Designed specifically for medical-grade sleep assessments, it focuses on diagnosing sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It provides clinical data validated for healthcare use.
  • Apple Watch: Primarily a fitness and wellness tracker, it offers insights into general health and activity levels, including basic sleep monitoring, but it is not intended for medical diagnoses.

Data Accuracy:

  • SleepImage Ring: Provides highly accurate and specialized data for sleep-related parameters, including respiratory patterns, oxygen levels (SpO₂), heart rate variability (HRV), and sleep quality. It's approved for medical use in diagnosing conditions like sleep apnea.
  • Apple Watch: Offers general measurements of heart rate, SpO₂, and activity levels. Its sleep tracking is more basic, focusing on duration and general sleep stages rather than medical-grade diagnostic accuracy.

Monitoring Technology:

  • SleepImage Ring: Uses plethysmography and other advanced metrics specifically designed to detect and analyze sleep-disordered breathing and other detailed sleep parameters.
  • Apple Watch: Uses accelerometers, photoplethysmography (PPG), and optical sensors for broader health monitoring, with sleep tracking as a secondary feature.

Simplicity and Comfort:

  • SleepImage Ring: Lightweight and worn on a single finger, it’s non-invasive and specifically optimized for overnight use with minimal discomfort.
  • Apple Watch: Worn on the wrist, it may be less comfortable for some users during sleep, and continuous wear can cause minor inconveniences, such as charging requirements.

Clinical Use:

  • SleepImage Ring: Provides data specifically for healthcare professionals to assess and diagnose sleep disorders. Its results are used as part of a medical evaluation.
  • Apple Watch: Not intended for diagnostic purposes but rather for personal use to promote general health awareness.

Regulatory Approval

  • SleepImage Ring: Approved for medical use by regulatory bodies like the FDA or other health organizations, ensuring its reliability for clinical diagnoses.
  • Apple Watch: While it includes some FDA-cleared features (like ECG), its sleep-tracking features are not designed for diagnostic accuracy.

In summary, while the Apple Watch is a great tool for general health and fitness tracking, the SleepImage Ring is specifically designed for medical-grade sleep diagnostics. If you’re concerned about sleep disorders or need clinically reliable data, the SleepImage Ring is the superior choice.
